Russia”s gas monopoly loses position
Commissioning of the gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China – is the first serious alternative to the export of Central Asian gas via Russia. And the new pipeline undermine Russia”s position as a monopolist in the supply of energy in Europe and Asia. According to European media, now Russia will have to become much more flexible in negotiations with European countries.
As the “Deutsche Welle” , if the European Union is now vigorously will undertake the project “Nabucco” and secure access to energy resources of Central Asia that bypass Russia, is further undermining the rule of Moscow.
China actively talks about a strategic partnership with Russia, which does not hinder him in the issue of energy defending the national interests only. And they are easier to implement, in partnership with Russia is not, as with the Central Asian despots. Moscow has a political weight and status. Europe understands this and is ready for intelligent cooperation. But this requires a constructive approach in Moscow, not only in the sphere of energy supplies.
