Today – World Day of Remembrance for Victims of Accident
initiated in 1993 by the British charity fund assistance to victims of road accidents Road Peace, a tradition to commemorate the dead on the roads and thus to draw public attention to the problems of traffic quickly found understanding and support throughout the world.
In 1998, Memorial Day has gone beyond Europe and has appeared on other continents, and October 26, 2005 UN General Assembly adopted a resolution appeal to all Governments to observe the third Sunday in November as a Day of Remembrance of the accident.
According to UN estimates, every year in the world as a result of road accidents kill about 1,3 million people, and injuries are from 20 to 50 million people. Road traffic injuries among the three main causes of death in people aged from 5 to 44 years.
According to the Association of Road Safety for 2008 on highways killed 7690 people, representing about 167 people per 1 million inhabitants. According to the study Forbs, Ukraine in 2008 at a cost only Russia with 235 killed per 1 million inhabitants.
