Obama called on November 9 World Freedom Day
U.S. President Barack Obama announced on Nov. 9, 2009 World Day of freedom. Thus the U.S. leader marked the 20 anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
According to the newspaper Sight , in today's special statement Barack Obama said: Twenty years ago a wall collapsed and the country and the continent reunited. According to the American President, iron curtain divided Europe for decades, has finally fallen, thus heralding a new era of freedom and cooperation .
Barack Obama also noted that with the fall of the Berlin Wall began to disappear by repressive regimes around the world, began closing prisons everywhere and the doors of democracy were thrown open for millions of people who knew only tyranny. The present world, said the American President , is faced with challenges based on the walls are not made of cement and iron, and out of fear, irresponsibility and indifference .
Leader U.S. stressed the need to work with all nations to strengthen civil society, support for democratic institutions and the rule of law, ensuring free and fair elections.
Recall today Germany is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall that divided the capital into two parts. to the remains of the wall came a lot of people that like twenty years ago to celebrate the unification of the country.
