Bulgarian Court vacated the ex-prime minister of Kosovo, Agim Ceku, a detainee at the request of Serbia
District Court of Kyustendil in Bulgaria on the basis of almost six meeting decided to immediately release from detention former Kosovo Prime Minister Agim Ceku. The politician was arrested on 23 June at checkpoint Gyueshevo at the Bulgarian-Macedonian border on the basis of the Interpol warrant, issued at the request of Serbia.
decision of the court was almost predetermined, after a statement by the representative of the Public Prosecutor's Office during the trial it was noted that in the case Çeku no sufficient evidence that the Kosovo politician has committed a crime in which he was charged, ITAR-TASS. In addition, as noted by local media, the representative of the prosecution questioned the competence of the Serbian court sentenced Çeku to 20 years' imprisonment for genocide.
Immediately after the announcement of the court decision in a statement before Çeku the media noted that the decision of the court is satisfied, never doubted the justice of the Bulgarian justice and has no claim to the border authorities detained him. He stressed that this trial once again confirmed that the requirement of Serbia of his arrest is issued without any basis.
The court in The Hague has already investigated the crimes committed in this region, identify the perpetrators, no charges against me will never put forward. I am not a citizen of Serbia, and never was. Serbia can not seek extradition of foreign citizens , – he said.
The court decision may be appealed by the prosecutor's office in a higher authority – in the Sofia Court of Appeal, in the next three days. While the procedure is fully completed, should remain available Çeku Bulgarian judicial authorities. Former Kosovo Prime Minister said that will be located in Sofia, indicating the address where it can be found if necessary.
Agim Ceku arrived in Bulgaria at the invitation of the former head of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chairman of the National Assembly Foreign Policy (Parliament) of Bulgaria, Solomon Pasi, which intended to discuss the integration of Kosovo into the North Atlantic Alliance.
Serbia demands arrest Çeku since 2002. During this period, the former Prime Kosovo has been arrested three times – in 2003 and 2004 in Slovenia and Hungary, as well as in the current year in Colombia. After appropriate investigations Ceku was subsequently expelled from these countries, but the authorities of those States have refused to extradite him to Serbia, referring to the provisions of its domestic law.
